This Saturday at 7:30, I will be performing brand new pieces along with Anthony Thompson on clarinet and Michelle Hwu on percussion in a composer’s workshop!
The group, known as Torontiade (after the very popular ‘Schubertiades’, which were gatherings of musicians and composers in small salons in the 19th century), is an affordable new music workshop that emphasizes collaboration and networking.
For the composers, it is a chance to compose for groups that they would otherwise not have the chance to write for. For the performers, it’s a great opportunity to perform not only new works but to also get solid recordings under their belt. The group was formed by U of T grad Mike Romaniak, one of the coolest cats I’ve ever met!
In the second half, there will also be a band playing called ‘Kelsey’s Trio’ featuring Kelsey McNulty, Jessica Deutsch and Tyler Emond.
We will be performing at a rad place: Placebo, found at 1409 Bloor Street West. Space is limited, and there are bean bag chairs to sit on and a bar to drink from. Hope to see you all there! Best of all – it’s PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN!!
