Tomorrow night at 8pm, I’ll be performing in a 12 piece orchestra on-stage at Koerner Hall accompanying the Nathaniel Dett Chorale in their performance of ‘Treemonisha’, North America’s first Afro-American Opera by Scott Joplin. The following is a great summary of it:
Set during the period of reconstruction, this story of racial uplift reflects the great hunger for education in African American communities after the Civil War. Never performed in Joplin’s lifetime, this brilliant work draws on both African American and 18th century operatic traditions.
The music is amazingly fun to play (and listen to), and the soloists and choir sound incredible. It makes for an incredibly uplifting performance.
The concert will be taking place at Koerner Hall Tuesday night (May 29th), at 8pm, and you can purchase tickets on the RCM website.
